Stefan Angehrn first donned his boxing gloves at the age of 18. At the time he did not realise how much this was to change his life. These days Stefan Angehrn is one of the best-known sports personalities in Switzerland. He fought Ralf Rocchigiani for the world title on two occasions (1996 and 1997) and the defeat on points in Zurich on 26 April 1997 was more than disputed.
On 13 December of the same year, the native of Thurgau wore down Germany’s Thorsten May to such an extent that the Barcelona Olympic winner lost his nerve in the 9th round and gave up. Another career highpoint was without doubt the points victory against Dan Ward (USA). The win made Stef the IBF Intercontinental Champion in 1998 in Kloten. He also made it into the top ten of the most significant and independent world ranking, in “The Ring” magazine, the Bible of boxing. The late entrant to the boxing world had made the most of his potential.
